Expert Electric Moped Repair in Hollywood, FL

Electric mopeds and seated electric scooters occupy a unique space in the micromobility world. They are more powerful than stand-up e-scooters, with 48V, 60V, or 72V battery systems, larger hub motors, hydraulic disc brakes, full lighting systems, suspension, and higher top speeds. They are also more complex to repair — their high-voltage systems, integrated lighting circuits, and mechanical components require specialized diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge that a standard e-scooter shop may not have.

Scooter Repair in Hollywood, FL, has the expertise to service electric mopeds from brands including NIU, Super73, Juiced Bikes, Ariel Rider, and many others. Our technicians understand high-voltage lithium battery systems, brushless hub motors operating at 1000W or more, hydraulic brake systems, DC-DC converters that step down battery voltage for 12V lighting circuits, and the complex wiring harnesses that connect these systems.

Our shop is located at 812 N Dixie Hwy, Hollywood, FL 33020. We are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Call ahead at (786) 939-7414 with your moped brand, model, and battery voltage so we can confirm parts availability before your visit. We also service electric scooters, e-bikes, and lithium batteries for riders across Broward County and North Miami-Dade.

    High-Voltage Battery & Controller Diagnostics

Electric mopeds operate at significantly higher voltages than stand-up e-scooters — typically 48V, 60V, or 72V. These higher-voltage systems deliver more power to the hub motor but also require more robust controllers, heavier-duty wiring, and high-amp battery connectors (such as Anderson or XT90 plugs). When a high-voltage system fails, the diagnostic process is more complex because the fault could be in the battery, the BMS, the controller, the motor, or the wiring between them.

Our diagnostic process for electric moped high-voltage systems includes: measuring the battery pack's resting voltage and comparing it to the nominal voltage (48V, 60V, or 72V), testing the battery under load to check for voltage sag and cell imbalance, evaluating the BMS for proper charge and discharge MOSFET operation, testing the controller's output signals to the motor, and checking Hall sensor signals. We also inspect high-amp connectors (Anderson, XT90) for corrosion, loose contacts, or heat damage — a common failure point on high-power mopeds.

DC-DC converters are another critical component unique to electric mopeds. These devices step down the main battery voltage (48V–72V) to 12V for the lighting system, horn, and turn signals. A failed DC-DC converter can cause all lighting to stop working while the motor continues to operate. We test converter output voltage and replace failed units with compatible replacements.

Hydraulic Brake & Lighting System Service

Most electric mopeds are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes — typically front and rear — which provide significantly better stopping power than the mechanical brakes found on stand-up e-scooters. Hydraulic brake service includes pad replacement, brake fluid bleeds (to remove air and moisture from the system), master cylinder inspection, rotor truing, and caliper alignment. We also repair brake light switches, which activate the taillight when the brake lever is pressed.

Electric moped lighting systems include the headlight (LED or halogen), taillight, brake light, turn signals (left and right), and horn. These are powered by the 12V DC-DC converter. Common lighting issues we diagnose include: failed headlight (often a burned-out LED module or failed converter), turn signals not flashing (usually a failed flasher relay), brake light not activating (broken brake switch or wiring), and horn not working (failed horn or broken switch). We test each component in the lighting circuit to identify the root cause.

Battery Safety:Electric moped batteries store significantly more energy than stand-up e-scooter batteries. If your moped battery is swollen, hot, leaking, hissing, or emitting an odor, stop using and charging the device immediately. Move it outdoors away from flammable materials if safe, and contact local emergency services (call 911) if there is an immediate fire risk. Do not attempt to open or puncture the battery pack. Bring the moped to our Hollywood shop for professional evaluation.
